From April 7th to 11th, 2024, Paula Campos de Oliveira and Michiel Smedes participated in the Pan American Ceramics Congress and Ferroelectrics Meeting of Americas (PACC-FMAs 2024) organized by the American Ceramics Society, held in Panama City, Panama. This was a good opportunity to promote their work, conducted during their employment with SAFRAN, in the development of sustainable ceramics.

Paula and Michiel gave oral presentations on their respective PhD subjects during the symposium about advanced ceramics and composites. Paula presented her insights on the Influence of processing on the microstructure of aerospace ceramics by imaging and Michiel discussed his work on the Design of a New Ceramic Castable for Investment Casting of Turbine Blades. 

During the conference, many interesting talks were given about novel research on the characterisation and optimisation of refractories. The insightful presentations included “Microcracked Refractory Microstructures Investigations by EBSD and Synchrotron Facilities” by Prof. Marc Huger.
